Richard’s Year of Movies — Alice in Wonderland

No, I didn’t go see that Burton monstrosity again, this was the 1951 Disney version.  The one that, for some reason, Disney decided not to release on Blu-ray, even though I can get every Air Bud and Snow Dogs movie known to man in that format.  You’ve got rides in five theme parks based on this movie and you can’t give it the Blu-ray treatment?  People will give you money for it!

Anyway, as for the film itself, it’s a pretty by-the-numbers tour of Lewis Carroll’s books.  It doesn’t have quite the same artistry as Cinderella or Peter Pan (the two films it was released between), and a lot of it feels like a series of shorts edited together, without much of a coherent story to it.  Not that it’s a bad film — saying the animation fails to live up to the gorgeous Peter Pan is hardly a criticism — but it does have the feel of the studio trying to find its feet again.

Yeah the Disney release structure is quite odd. Too bad its not on BD yet.
